General Questions

Where is the office located?

Near the intersection of Parker Lane and Woodward Street.

Where do I park?

Behind my building in a parking lot.

What are your office hours?

9:00 to 5:30 Tuesdays through Fridays.

What is a free initial phone consultation?

I do a free 20 minute intake call to assess what services you are needing and whether my practice is a good fit for what you are wanting to work on.

What is the age range of your clients?

16 years old and on up.

What can I expect in the first session?

In the first session, you will fill out an intake form and we will go over it together in order to decipher exactly what your goals for therapy are and identify areas of your life that you want to improve upon. You will also have time to ask me any questions you have about my work and experience.

What is therapy like with you?

Therapy is an exciting adventure once you realize that it really is helping you. At first you might feel tentative or unsure about it and this is normal, but, most of my clients report feeling benefits after two or three sessions, which helps them to fully engage. I do both short term and long term work. You will establish goals from the get go and I will use all of my tools, that are appropriate for your situation, to benefit you. I am interactive with my clients and use techniques and exercises during the healing process, as are fitting. I also teach my clients tools that they can use on their own, outside of session to create success in their lives.

How long will I be in therapy?

It varies. For short term work, its best to do at least twelve sessions. Many of my clients choose to work with me for months and even years once they see the benefits it creates for them.

My program, Manifesting Your Dream Relationship is a 10-week program with one on one coaching calls and includes homework to be done in between them.

Does anyone cry in front of you?

Most of my clients do cry in session at some point. I aim to create a safe environment for them to authentically express any of their emotions, as much as they are comfortable doing. I never push clients to emote.

Do I have to tell you everything?

No, you don’t have to tell me everything. You can pick and choose what to tell me. However, the more authentic and candid you are about your issues, the better I can help and support you.

Do you offer video or phone sessions?

I offer both. At times, I travel and so work remotely when I do. In-person sessions are available when I am in Texas. Somatic Energy Treatments are immersive and in-person but can be done remotely if desired.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

You will feel comfortable with me and a connection right away. You will notice feeling calmer when working with me from our first contact onward. My holistic approach is something that you want to try or for which you have been searching.

I’ve never been to therapy or shared personal issues before. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

On the contrary, people who go to therapy are usually strong in that they aren’t afraid to ask for help or support. Part of emotional resilience is that ability to do so. They are also driven to go after their goals and dreams versus just settling for what happens to them.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

I will be a professional who is not personally involved in your life. What you tell me is confidential. I will not personalize what you say. I will work with you towards creating your success rather than being focused on our personal relationship.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

After you set therapy/coaching goals with me, we will look at what is getting in the way of you achieving them. Dysfunctional core patterns related to the past will be identified. We will explore how they are playing out in the present. You will learn about new behaviors to experiment with to create better results in your life. I will then do somatic therapy to help you release these patterns from your nervous system and body. Once you start feeling freer and more present, I will teach you specific steps to help you to apply energy to achieve your goals.

Are you a Christian counselor?

I honor all spiritual and religious beliefs in my work with clients. Many of my clients are Christians but I don’t intentionally incorporate the teachings of Christ in my therapy/coaching work.

Is our work confidential?

Yes, it is confidential.

How long have you been in practice?

I’ve been in practice for 40 years.

What are your strengths as a therapist?

I am interactive and engender trust from my clients with ease. I help clients focus on and achieve their goals through our work together. I am both a therapist and coach so incorporate each approach. I give clients tools to use on their own so they can eventually graduate from working with me. It is part of my mission for clients to become whole and complete within themselves so that they can be autonomous in general.

What do you enjoy about being a therapist?

I enjoy helping people who are stuck and searching for a way forward, to heal from their past, free their bodies from trauma and then create success for which they have longed in their lives.

Have you been in therapy yourself?

Yes. I have been in therapy of many different forms and studied many of those forms to use with clientele.

What is your educational background?

I have a BFA in Dance from Ohio University and a Master's Degree In Counseling Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.

Do you prescribe medications?

No, I am not a doctor but I refer people to psychiatrists, to get on medication, if deemed necessary.

What is the difference between a psychotherapist and a psychiatrist?
